1-1/2 C. all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 TB. sugar
1 TB baking powder
1/3 C. shortening
2/3 C. buttermilk (to make your own buttermilk for this recipe – add 1 tsp. lemon juice to your regular milk. Let it sit for about 2 minutes and voila… buttermilk.)
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Sift together dry ingredients in large bowl. Cut in shortening. Mix in buttermilk and gently knead until combined and a soft dough forms.
On floured board, pat dough to 1/2″ thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter or rim of a glass. Place on cookie sheet and bake for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Makes about 8 or 9 biscuits.
